How Much Does Orthodontic Treatment Cost? Understanding Prices and Value

How much does orthodontic treatment cost in Switzerland? This article explains what affects pricing—such as treatment type, duration and complexity—and compares Invisalign with traditional braces.

Why the Price Varies from Patient to Patient

Orthodontic treatment costs vary depending on several factors. There’s no one-size-fits-all price, but we can help you understand what drives the differences.

Key factors that influence pricing:

  • Type of treatment: metal braces, Invisalign, expanders, etc.
  • Length of treatment: months vs. years
  • Case complexity: mild or severe misalignment
  • Technology used: 3D scans, digital planning, high-quality materials
  • Provider experience: certified experts like Invisalign Diamond Providers

Traditional Braces vs Invisalign

A common question is: “Is Invisalign more expensive than traditional braces?”

The answer is: it depends. Here’s a comparison:

While Invisalign may have a higher initial cost, many patients prefer it for its comfort, appearance, and flexibility—especially adults.

How Does Insurance Work?

In Switzerland, basic insurance typically does not cover orthodontics, unless medically necessary for major deformities.

However, many families add supplementary orthodontic insurance, especially for children. Applying early helps reduce premiums and increase coverage.

FAQs about insurance:

  • Can I add insurance if my child already needs braces? → Depends on the insurer.
  • How much does it cover? → Usually 50%–80%.
  • Does it apply to Invisalign? → Yes, if specified in your policy.

A straight, healthy smile is not just aesthetic—it impacts:
