Fixed appliances require a stricter oral hygiene routine due to the difficulty of cleaning around brackets and wires, which can lead to plaque formation and potential gum problems if not handled properly.

In addition, patients with fixed braces will need more frequent visits for adjustments and monitoring, often every 6 to 8 weeks.

Some foods, such as sticky or hard objects, should be avoided during treatment to avoid damage to the brackets or wires.

Compared to clear aligners such as Invisalign, fixed braces are less discreet and can affect self-confidence, especially in social or professional settings. Although fixed braces remain an effective treatment method, advances in orthodontics, such as Invisalign, now offer a more aesthetic, comfortable and flexible alternative for most patients, without the need for dietary restrictions or frequent office visits. Both options are similarly priced, but Invisalign tends to be preferred by patients looking for convenience and an almost invisible treatment.
